House on Garda Lake

Private residence on two levels situated in northern Italy close to the Lake Garda. Looking for a deep interaction with lake and natural surroundings the energy efficiency of this near zero energy building was only one of the ingredients of planning. The new single family house based on passive house standards is oriented with its big window facade to the lake and therefore to north. This has the advantage to reduce the higher cooling demand in that specific climate zone.

comfort: The conditions ad the base of the design were the panoramic view with orientation to the lake and an ottimized construction quality to reduce maintenence and increase indoor quality.

To satisfy this requirement the whole facade looking to the lake is transparent and originates a direct relationship with green area and the lake what has an important psicologic effect on uman well-being and rapport with nature .

This main glazing area is oriented towards north and allowes so also in summer to keep a correct daylight-factor in the mainrooms. Orientable shading systems help to filter the sunlight but won’t be closed completely like often in this climate zones happens. Also the deep balcony helps to permit a continuos relation between indoor and outdoor.

High daylight presence is a central theme in the whole distribution. Open living spaces, double highth and the connection of rooms permits flowing of light in all directions.

energy: The basic focus has been to minimize the energy demand in winter and also in summer following the passivehouse standard ottimizing the building design. To avoid discomfort is much important in winter like in summer. Natural ventilation in the night helps cooling. The simple form of geometry helps to minimize heatloos through the climate shell and few remaining thermal bridges are resolved. Airtightness is best with test results of n50=0,2 (n50=0,4 with garagedoors).

By the use of a complementary ventilation and heating system with auxiliary waterstorage of 250l the overall energy use for heating, cooling, hot water, ventilation, light and domestic electricity is 42kWh/m2 calculated and monitorated in 1,5 year.

The prevision of installation of PV on the roof of the building with 6,93 kWp will complete the concept for electricity supply with renewable energy. Battery charging unit for e-mobility is planned.
