Portela House
Portela House can be equipped with sensors that register heat, CO2 and humidity in all rooms and an outside weather station. These combined with an intelligent control system ensure that the house adjusts to the family’s need for a healthy, comfortable indoor climate. Automatic window opening mechanisms let in fresh while sensors turn off lights when you leave the room. These factors combine to create a home with a very low level of energy consumption.
Portela House is design in synergy with Mediterranean climate and site specification. Facades are oriented to prevent shelter from cold North wind and defined windows openings to let in: daylight; nature; fresh air; and generate spatial experiences indoors and out. The project adoptedthe following Bioclimatic strategies: in winter – restrict heat loss by conduction; provide a strong thermal inertia and promote solar gain in the South quadrant; in the summer – restrict solar gain; promote cross ventilation at night and in the morning. The relationship with the sun, the natural ventilation for cooling along with a strong thermal inertia are thus three important features in the design of the housing to allow a good control of temperature variations and better utilization of solar radiation
Portela design house, with an outside pool, reflects a deep concern with self-sufficiency in energy and environmental impact (reduction of CO2 emissions), integrating passive measures for thermal comfort and air quality and providing areas for implementation of active simple measures. With its design, orientation and materials, Portela home is optimize to covers all of its energy requirements primarily by collecting solar energy and converting it into heat and electricity through a combination of natural solutions and advanced technology – making the house CO2-neutral.
